Who we are
Vision Care is a small UK charity founded in 2003 to improve access to eye care for people affected by homelessness.
Working in partnership with optometrists, homelessness services and community organisations, we remove barriers to sight tests and glasses. Each year, we support around 1,800 people to access eye care through five weekly clinics and outreach visits.
Our work focuses on three connected areas: facilitating eye care delivery, education and engagement, and advocacy for change.
About Vision Care
Vision Care exists to ensure that people affected by homelessness can access the eye care they need in ways that are practical, accessible and supportive.
We facilitate the delivery of eye care through five weekly clinic locations and mobile visits to areas where support is needed. These outreach visits allow us to work with multiple services within a region and reach people who may not be able to travel to a fixed clinic. We also encourage partners to run pop-up clinics and collaborate with organisations such as Crisis, delivering eye care as part of Crisis at Christmas.
Alongside facilitating eye care delivery, we provide education and engagement across both the homelessness and primary eye care sectors, helping build understanding of vision needs and confidence in supporting people affected by homelessness.
We also advocate for policy and system change, working to ensure that eye care is recognised as an essential part of support for people experiencing homelessness.
Our mission, strategy and impact
Our work is guided by a clear mission, a focused strategy and a commitment to understanding our impact. These areas shape how we grow, improve services and respond to the needs of people affected by homelessness.
Our mission
Our mission is to improve eye health through direct services and work to remove barriers through advocacy and education.
Our three year strategy
Our strategy sets out how we will expand access to services, strengthen partnerships and increase understanding of eye care needs across the homelessness and health sectors.
Our impact
Our eyecare
We facilitate eye care delivery through regular clinics, mobile visits and partnerships with trusted organisations. This flexible approach allows us to reach people in locations where traditional services may be difficult to access.
Through collaboration with partners across the UK, including work at Crisis at Christmas, we help ensure that more people affected by homelessness can access sight tests and receive the glasses they need.
Our team
Our staff team leads the day-to-day delivery of Vision Care’s services, partnerships, and programmes. They work closely with volunteers, clinicians, and partner organisations to ensure our services reach those who need them most.
