Frequently asked questions
Is it really free?
Yes. Eye tests and glasses are completely free for people affected by homelessness.
Who can access Vision Care services?
Our services are for people experiencing homelessness or insecure housing.
This may include sleeping rough, sofa surfing, staying in a hostel, living in temporary or emergency accommodation, using a day centre, or being supported by a homelessness, housing or outreach service.
You do not need a referral, and you will not be asked to prove your circumstances.
Do I need to be eligible for NHS funded eye care?
No. You do not need to meet NHS eligibility criteria to access Vision Care.
Can a support worker book for someone else?
Yes. Support workers are welcome to help someone access eye care or make a booking for them.
Do I need an appointment?
What if there isn’t a Vision Care clinic near me?
You may still be able to access free eye care through one of our partner opticians or mobile eye clinics.
Other opticians may offer free services based on NHS eligibility.
