Optoversity Challenge, the exciting Out of the Box Optics(OOTBO) event for all UK optometry students, came to a head at 100% Optical, with the University of the West of England winning for the second year in a row.
Second place went to the students at Aston and third place to Bradford University. Now in its seventh year of supporting Vision Care for Homeless People through student sponsorship, the event has raised a total of £33,000 for the charity.
As OOTBO organiser, Gajan Singh, explained –
“The event gets students to really challenge themselves but is only possible thanks to our wonderful sponsors and supporters within the optical community,” he said.
The four third year finalists joined the OOTBO pre-reg workshop at 100% Optical with their OSCEs taking place at the same time.
A total of 71 students registered, from 13 universities, and the overall winner was Isa Sheikh, a third year optometry student for UWE, helping to take his team into the overall lead.
The highest amount raised for the charity by any single student was Maaria Azad from Aston University, who raised £405. The total amount raised for VCHP by student sponsorship, donation and sponsorship was £8389 this year.
